Major Oak
The Major Oak Situated in the heart of Sherwood, the Major Oak is one of the oldest and largest trees remaining in the Sherwood Forest.
 
The Major Oak is famed for its associations with the Robin Hood legend and generations of children have hidden within its hollow trunk in imitation of Robin Hood's men. It first became an important tourist destination in Victorian times with the coming of the railway to Edwinstowe.
 
Today, visitors come to Edwinstowe to see the Major Oak and enjoy peaceful walks through Sherwood's leafy glades and secret forest paths.
