Edwinstowe Parish Planning Meeting 30 November 2016

Present: Cllrs Ayre, Benson, Brown, J Peck, K Peck, Tattersall & Troop

PLANNING APPLICATIONS

1. Application No: 16/01499/FULM
Applicant: RSPB
Proposal: Erection of new Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre with associated car parking and environs including diversion of bridleway.
Site Address: Forest Corner, Edwinstowe, Notts
EPC DECISION: (Cllr J Peck declared an interest and did not vote) Support Proposal with the following points raised: The Highways Committee need to look carefully at the type of pedestrian crossing that is put in and give consideration to where it is located at Forest Corner. Traffic calming measures need considering. It is requested that the speed limit in the proximity of the visitor centre be reduced to 20 mph and this is extended further up Swincote Road, with a 30 mph speed limit for the remaining section of Swinecote Road. EPC would also ask Highways to take this opportunity to consider installing a filter light at the cross-road traffic lights in the village. There is a general concern about traffic congestion at busy times. EPC will continue to make representations for extra signage to the High Street to encourage people to visit local shops/pubs/businesses etc. Access to the Forest Cemetery needs to remain clear at all times, and parking at Forest Cemetery should remain free of charge. Ancient Oaks should not be touched. Concerns about cricket balls hitting the visitor centre need addressing. Proposed boundary changes to leases needs checking. There should be sufficient provision of toilet facilities to meet demand, and be prepared for heavy usage at busy times. The metal used for the roof of the visitor centre needs to be sympathetic to its environment.
Concern has also been expressed from members of the public about the number of parking places allocated which they felt may not be sufficient on busy days. They also had concerns regarding the proposed drop off point at Forest Corner which it was felt may cause traffic congestion.
