Welcome to EdwinstoweEdwinstowe, Nottinghamshire
A small Nottinghamshire village in the heart of Sherwood Forest, home of the legendary Robin Hood.

District Councillors’ Report – September 2011

Both District Councillors continue to work on individual cases.

Newark and Sherwood homes have been contacted on several matters; all, to date, with successful outcomes.

We continue to work on improving the facilities and appearance of the High Street, including working with officers on planning issues and contacting owners of empty premises about possible future plans.
A meeting with a Highways officer from Notts County Council was arranged in response to several issues raised with both Parish and District Councillors by residents. A report on this will be given at the September Parish Council meeting.

We attended a meeting with NSDC (Newark and Sherwood District Council) officers to look at the Development Plan for Edwinstowe. A public meeting is being arranged by the NSDC officers to seek the views of residents. This is likely to be held in the Village Hall on a date to be confirmed shortly.

As Councillors, both Parish and District, we have attended meetings of the Business Forum, Tenants and Residents Association and the Safer Neighbourhood Group.

At the meeting of the Tenants and Residents Association (T&R) it was agreed that in future meetings would take place at various venues around the village rather than only at Abbey Road, and would be on nights other than Parish Council meeting nights. This will enable officials of the T&R to attend Parish Council meetings and Parish and District Councillors to attend T&R Association meetings. These moves will ensure that the people of Edwinstowe can access help and guidance from both bodies.

The Safer Neighbourhood meetings have also been organised at times and dates which make the attendance of District Councillors difficult because of other Council commitments. Normally District Councillors are expected to be involved in Safer Neighbourhood meetings. However the Chair, County Councillor Ward and others were not prepared to amend previously planned dates to accommodate this. The Chair did agree to advertise future meetings around the village to allow residents from the whole village to attend should they wish to do so.

The meeting of 6th September 2011 was attended chiefly by residents from the Abbey Road, Henton Road and Beardsley Road areas. Some of the 20 or so people who attended were clearly under the impression that they were at a Neighbourhood Watch meeting having had individual approaches about the meeting from Neighbourhood Watch officials.

PC Appleby gave an account of police activity in the village and where police efforts had been concentrated. Various problems and challenges were discussed and 3 priorities were put forward:
• High Street and Mansfield Road – anti-social behaviour
• 4th Avenue and surrounding area – speeding and vandalism
• Forest Corner – on-going issues with cars and anti-social behaviour.

The next meeting is on November 1st at 6pm at Abbey Road Community Centre.
