Parish Council Meeting Minutes -16th June 2009

Welcome to Edwinstowe

A vibrant and busy village in the heart of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, an ideal location to explore local attractions such as Sherwood Forest with the famous Major Oak, Sherwood Pines with its excellent cycle routes and paths and Clumber Park and Rufford Park with their beautiful grounds to explore. Edwinstowe High Street is a two minute walk from the Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre and bustles with a variety of individual and unique shops, where you can browse for that perfect souvenir or gift, as well as butchers, bakers, newsagent and a supermarket. Edwinstowe benefits from a wide range of services and activities that cover all interests and age groups. Such a diverse range of activities creates a community spirit as there is always something going on.

Free Lantern Workshops

As part of the Edwinstowe Extravaganza, there will be free lantern making workshops in the Village Hall

Wednesday 8th July 2009 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm
Saturday 11th July 2009 10.00 am - 4.00 pm

and then a final session to finish off your lanterns

Edwinstowe Through the Ages
On Wednesday 15th July 2009, Margaret Woodhead will be giving a talk on 'Edwinstowe Through the Ages' in the Church Rooms 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm. Tickets cost £2.00 and are available from the Parish Council and Edwinstowe Library.

Best Kept Village
Edwinstowe has entered the Best Kept Village Competition this year and judging will be taking place between Monday 8th June and Friday 26th June. We have a long tradition of good results in this competition and came second in our category last year. Once again, David, Andy and Gary will be working hard to ensure the village looks as tidy as ever. We'll keep you posted.

Edwinstowe Summer High Street Festival 2009 - Thursday 16th July
This year there will be a farmers/craft market from 10.00 - 2.00 and an English Fete Event (with traditional games hoop-la etc) from 4.00 - 7.00 pm. The stalls will cost £5 each per session. See more information >>>

Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre

The new centre hopes to attract 25% more visitors which will boost the local economy and create over 300 new jobs in the region. Plans for the inside include a cafe and restaurant for up to 180 people, gift shop, tourist information, an audio-visual visitor experience and a range of flexible rooms for weddings, conferences, functions or corporate use. Outdoor features will include a picnic area, a children's play area and a large area for activities such as jousting and theatre.
